Minimal Models for Glucose and Insulin Kinetics - A Matlab Implementation

So-called 'minimal models' of glucose and insulin plasma levels are commonly used to analyse the results of glucose tolerance tests in humans and laboratory animals. The development of compartment models of whole-body glucose homeostasis goes back to the work of e.g. Dr. Richard N. Bergman and co-workers since the 1970's.
Measured time-courses data of blood plasma insulin and glucose are used as input and output data, respectively, to estimate parameters that represent insulin sensitivity of a subject. Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) has been implemented in Matlab. Numeically solving the MLE problem requires the Optimization Toolbox.
